New Travel Assistance Provider

Effective Oct. 3, 2016, Sun Life will be switching their emergency out-of-province and out-of-country travel assistance provider to Allianz Global Assistance.

The switch will be seamless for University of Saskatchewan employees enrolled in the extended health care plan. There will be no changes to your current coverage, contract number or contact telephone numbers used to access emergency travel assistance. Sun Life’s provider, Allianz Global Assistance, has immediate access to an international medical network, providing the required assistance for any emergency, 24/7.

If you have an active claim with our former provider, Europ Assistance, they will continue to manage your medical emergency until it is completed but all new claims starting on Oct. 3 will be handled by Allianz Global Assistance.

Prior to travelling, get to know your travel benefits, including what to do in case of an emergency.

  1. Read you extended health care plan summary.
  2. Log into your Sun Life account and print out a travel insurance card (select my coverage and from the menu on the right select print travel card.) Also take the time to read the information on what to do in a medical emergency (select my coverage and travel benefit).
  3. In the case of an emergency you or someone with you must contact Allianz Global Assistance immediately. Failure to do so could result in your claim not being covered.
  4. Submit non-emergent treatment claims (e.g. chiropractor, massage therapist, etc.) directly to Sun Life through your regular extended health care plan.

For additional information on your travel benefits visit the Knowledge Base, an online resource available through the ConnectionPoint PAWS channel (under “admin services”) or visit the ConnectionPoint website.

If you have any questions related to the transition, please contact the Sun Life Customer Care Centre at 1-800-361-6212 Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
