34.01

Participation in professional development activities is encouraged. Employees and Supervisors should engage in regular discussions pertaining to professional development planning and opportunities. Upon request by the employee, at least one meeting per year shall occur between the employee and the Supervisor during the period of appointment to discuss goals and professional development planning and opportunities. A record of these discussions are expected to be documented by the Employee and Supervisor.

Subject to the written approval of the Supervisor, travel, registration and related expenses, in accordance with the employer’s travel policy, shall be paid by the employer.

34.02

The College of Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies will inform Post-doctoral Fellows of professional development opportunities.

34.03

Career development opportunities may be available for Postdoctoral Fellows through the assignment of additional duties or through other short-term appointments with the Employer. These opportunities must be discussed with and approved, in advance, by the Supervisor and in consultation with Human Resources.

34.04

Where the University hosts events or learning opportunities in support of or alignment with our strategic priorities, supervisors will make reasonable efforts to support the attendance of interested employees without loss of pay or benefits, where work will not be unreasonably disrupted.
